On September 30, Greg and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. We had a fun day planned, we were going to be in Astoria, OR and we’d discovered that there was a cute 9 hole golf course not too far from where we docked. Based on that knowledge we started formulating a plan wherein we’d try and golf in all 50 states. I mean, Alaska and Oregon in one fell swoop? It only made sense to make it a challenge.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men…. They get screwed up when a port is closed due to bad weather.
“Anniversary Golf’ turned into “Anniversary Improv Show” when our Astoria day turned into a sea day. Luckily it was a really fun show with a really great crowd who didn’t mind the 15 foot waves tossing us around. We’d been warned of 25 – 30 foot waves, so the 15 footers were like ripples on a puddle in comparison.
Our lovely cast-mates had ordered a bottle of champagne to be delivered to the lounge after the show, and we had an impromptu celebration with all of our entertainer friends.
We had a really nice day, and I regretted forgetting to pack our wedding video. We like to watch it every year on our anniversary, but this year it’ll have to wait until we get home. (You can see a clip of it on Cinema Chic’s website, and I can’t recommend their services highly enough. I was delighted with every bit of our contact with Kat.)
The unexpected sea day/show day reminded me a little bit of our wedding; being surrounded by cheery, entertaining, funny and talented people and I was once again grateful for the job that we have that allows us to foster relationships with wonderful singers, dancers and comedians.
We are truly a lucky pair of goofballs.
